University of the Cumberlands Basketball Teams Make History by Advancing to Sweet 16

The 2024 postseason has been a memorable one for the University of the Cumberlands basketball programs. Both the men’s and women’s teams served as tournament hosts for the first and second round games in the Annual NAIA National Championship Tournaments. Not only did they host the games, but they also secured victories to advance to the Sweet 16.

In the first round, the UC women’s team faced off against #14 Siena Heights and came out victorious with a score of 73-56. Led by juniors Kaylie Monday and Destiny Haworth, the Patriots showed great teamwork and determination on the court. On the men’s side, the second-ranked Patriots had a close game against Philander Smith University but pulled off a thrilling 97-96 win.

In the second round, both teams continued their winning streak. The women’s team defeated Bryan College with a score of 86-65, thanks to standout performances by the Monday twins. The men’s team also secured a win against Florida College with a score of 80-69.

Next up, the UC women’s team will be facing Dakota Wesleyan in the Sweet 16, while the men’s team will be taking on Morningside University. Both games are set to take place on Friday, March 22.
