Severe Weather Alert: Tornado Watch Issued for Acadiana Area

A Tornado Watch has been issued for the western and northwestern portions of Acadiana until 8 p.m. tonight. Conditions are becoming more conducive for the development of tornadoes as broken lines of storms are currently working into the warned area. These storms will continue to progress eastward and impact Acadiana later this evening, between 4-8 p.m. Make sure to stay weather-aware and have a plan in place in case of severe weather.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has identified a level three out of five risk of severe storms for central parts of the state, with Acadiana under a level two risk. While the severe threat and flash flooding risk should remain low, it’s important to be prepared for any changes in the weather conditions.

Remember, a tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms with the potential to produce tornadoes in and around the watch area. Stay tuned to updated forecasts and make sure to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
